It is quite ironic to the point of concern how forced unnatural sex with a wife is not considered an offense by the Chhattisgarh High Court, whereas a vulgar joke, on a form of content that is widely known favourably for these jokes, is seen fit as worthy of the attention of the police, journalistic media as well as leading political figures in India. If the centrality given to India’s Got Latent was instead given to Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College rape case, then maybe there might still have been some confidence left in the hearts of the public for India’s judicial system.
The way media censorship is a moral issue but not how crime is silenced in India, there is not a lot of hope left in the political leaders and their moral values. To break it down, a certain YouTube channel was famous for its “vulgar” comedy, and every misogynistic or problematic joke had been wavered off by the public in the name of entertainment. But recently, an influencer made a sex joke related to one’s parents, which sent such media outrage all over the country that the channel deleted all its videos, and the people concerned had to make multiple police station visits. Police officers were even stationed outside of their houses.

This scale of outrage triggered by a joke is highly unnecessary, considering how India has a multitude of other serious problems to divert its attention to. If modern-day journalism, for once, attempted to actually present newsworthy substance instead of chasing clout and political leaders attempted to make a change through their vision, then maybe the women in India could have felt safer walking the streets alone. I say women because only a couple of days after this “scandal”, the Chhatisgarh high court declared unnatural sex with a wife not an offense. Keep in mind this is after a woman dies because of unnatural sex with her husband.
Marital rape culture is so glorified in India that husbands can get away with anything. Again, I say this not because I am a “woke feminist” but because the man here in question was acquitted of all charges and was erstwhile released. If the public and media cared so much about moral values, then maybe their silence on crime would not have been so loud. Rapists are welcomed back from jails with garlands, whereas Youtubers are summoned to jail with mobs surrounding them for a joke made for entertainment purposes.
The purpose of this article is not to negate the vulgar comments made in the show because the customs of India do not gel well with disrespect of parents, even if done for purely entertainment purposes. It is understandable for the public to hold the people accountable, but the level of outrage needs to be kept in check.

It is astonishing to witness how the police force is actively involved in the case but completely absent from situations that demand their attention. In addition to the police force, even the Assam and Bangalore governments and police are invested here, while Manipur has the president’s rule imposed in the state. Clearly, the priorities of our country’s leaders and forces differ from what is required by the country. Corruption is a personal matter, while tasteless jokes have become a national matter.
The careers of the people who were involved in the joke have gone down the drain with more pressing matters like rampant unemployment and pollution in India down the drain as well. If the crime rate was curbed instead of forms of entertainment on social media then finally India could rise from the status of being a developing country to a developed one.
