Global Indian Network Joins Forces with Red Rope Movement to Combat Human Trafficking

March 17, 2025

Global Indian Network is proud to announce its partnership with Red Rope Movement, a pioneering organization dedicated to safeguarding, social reforms, and sustainability. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our collective mission to combat human trafficking and support survivors through advocacy, intervention, and rehabilitation.

Human trafficking is a global crisis, affecting an estimated 27.6 million people worldwide, according to the U.S. Department of State’s 2022 Trafficking in Persons Report. The International Labour Organization (ILO) states that nearly 80% of trafficking cases involve forced labor and sexual exploitation, disproportionately impacting women and children. Africa remains a critical hotspot, with over 3.5 million people trafficked annually in sub-Saharan Africa alone (UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, 2022).

Since its inception in 2019, the Red Rope Movement has spearheaded 161 Anti-Human Trafficking Clubs across colleges, multiple interstate cycling campaigns, and international symposiums. The organization has played a critical role in rescuing and repatriating survivors, particularly women trafficked from non-bordering countries such as Uzbekistan, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Cameroon. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention at the source, the Red Rope Movement has launched an ambitious East Africa Initiative, aimed at strengthening preventive measures in key source regions.

As part of this initiative, Global Indian Network is stepping in as a strategic partner, amplifying the impact of this movement by leveraging our extensive media reach to highlight the realities of human trafficking, mobilize communities, and foster dialogue between stakeholders. By joining forces, we aim to ensure that the conversation extends beyond victim support to systemic prevention and policy advocacy.

East Africa Mission: Strengthening Prevention Efforts at the Source

From March 27 to April 26, 2025, the Red Rope Movement, with the support of the Global Indian Network and other partners, will embark on a one-month trip to Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. This visit will focus on:

  • Advocacy and Liaison with Government Officials – Engaging policymakers to enhance anti-trafficking laws and interventions.
  • Community Awareness Programs – Educating schools, colleges, and local communities on trafficking risks and prevention strategies.
  • Engagement with Indian Communities Abroad – Strengthening awareness and solidarity among Indian diaspora populations.
  • Survivor Rehabilitation & Reintegration Support – Strengthening partnerships with local organizations to improve skill-building and reintegration programs.

High-Level Diplomatic Engagements – Working closely with local governments and NGOs to develop long-term strategies for trafficking prevention.
