Biography
The Story
Jas Sohl is a distinguished UK-based social entrepreneur, award-winning impact investor, and climate technology strategist with over 25 years of experience at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and global development. Through an extensive portfolio of Chairman and strategic stakeholder positions spanning the UK and international markets, he has built a career around designing and deploying high-impact, sustainable solutions across the Blue Economy, environmental technology, and social development. His work operates as an incubator model — channelling investment through diverse instruments including programmes, projects, ventures, financial instruments, and collaborative partnerships — to generate measurable environmental and social outcomes.
Impact Investing and Climate Technology Portfolio
Jas holds Chairman and strategic stake positions across numerous companies in the UK and internationally, with a particular focus on climate technologies and environmental services. His investment portfolio spans more than ten pioneering climate technology ventures, a track record that earned him the Smart Tech Award for impact investing — recognition of both the scale and intentionality of his approach to capital deployment.
Among his most prominent executive roles is his Chairmanship of Odour Services International Limited (OSIL), a UK-based company specialising in odour management and environmental compliance solutions. OSIL represents a key node within his broader commitment to practical environmental technology — the kind of applied, measurable work that sits at the heart of his philosophy as an investor and operator.
He also serves as Global Lead of Utilities and Mining at GK Hyperscale, a Singapore-anchored advisory and technology firm with reach across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania. In this role, Jas brings his expertise in sustainable infrastructure and utilities investment to a global platform, advising on projects that span energy, water, and resource extraction sectors with an ESG lens.
Academic Partnerships
A central pillar of Jas's environmental work is his instrumental contribution to the ETV-Bharatia (India) programme — the Environmental Technology Verification framework applied to the Indian market. He has driven five key initiatives within this programme, championing innovative environmental technologies and helping build the verification infrastructure through which new solutions are assessed, validated, and scaled in the Indian context.
His commitment to grounding innovation in institutional excellence is reflected in his partnerships with two of the world's leading technical universities: IIT Kanpur in India and Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. Cranfield, home to the Cranfield Water Science Institute and the Centre for Water, Environment and Development, is one of Europe's foremost research institutions in water treatment, environmental engineering, and sustainable resource management. These partnerships underscore Jas's belief that durable solutions must emerge from rigorous science, not just commercial ambition.
International Business Mentorship
Jas is a respected international business mentor for British Water — the leading UK membership association representing the water sector's private industry — through which he extends his expertise across Asia and India. In this capacity, he supports companies seeking to navigate emerging market entry, regulatory complexity, and project development in water and environmental services across the Indo-Pacific region. It is a role that positions him as a bridge between British technical excellence and Asia's fast-growing infrastructure and sustainability markets.
Development Agency Engagements
Jas's influence extends across multiple national and international development agencies. He serves as Chief Strategy Officer at the Confederation of Empowerment Initiatives (CEI) in Mumbai — an organisation focused on inclusive economic development across India — where he helps shape strategic direction, programme design, and partnership frameworks. He actively collaborates with the governments of both the UK and India to advance climate technology projects with real-world application, leveraging his dual market knowledge and extensive network across both ecosystems.
Incoming Honorary Consul of
Cambodia to the United Kingdom
In recognition of his sustained and substantive contribution to Cambodia-UK relations — through The Better Cambodia, GK Hyperscale, and a range of bilateral investment and development initiatives — Jas has been approved by the Cambodian government for appointment as Honorary Consul of Cambodia to the United Kingdom. This diplomatic role, currently in the confirmation process, will formalise his position as a key bridge between the two nations, supporting trade facilitation, investment promotion, and cultural diplomacy at an official level. The UK-Cambodia bilateral trade relationship reached $1 billion in 2024, with exports surging by 20% — a context that underscores the strategic importance of the role Jas is set to assume.
