Who they are

Full-spectrum business law, without the blind spots

The Global Indian Network welcomes Stratulat Albulescu Attorneys at Law, a Romanian firm of more than sixty lawyers that has spent over a decade acting for the funds, founders and corporates doing business in and through Romania.

The firm was built around a single working principle: a deal-driven, founder-level relationship with every client it represents. That means partners on the file rather than behind it, and advice that reaches past the conventional edges of a legal opinion into the commercial question underneath.

Its lawyers work in Romanian, English, French, Spanish and German, advise on EU law as fluently as on domestic law, and run multi-jurisdictional mandates through a single partner-led point of contact. For members with interests across South-East Europe, the useful part is that combination of local knowledge of the courts and regulators with a genuinely international outlook.

Practice areas

Eleven practices, one team on every mandate

Transactions rarely stay inside a single discipline. The firm is organised so that corporate, real estate, competition, employment and litigation lawyers move onto a file as the deal requires it, without a hand-off and without a second scoping exercise.

  • Banking & Finance

Syndicated lending, acquisition and project finance, structured and asset finance, for lenders and borrowers alike.

  • Corporate & Commercial

From incorporation and day-to-day general counsel support through every stage of the commercial contract process.

  • Dispute Resolution

Commercial, corporate, real estate and employment litigation, plus international arbitration including ICC and ICSID.

  • Employment

Everyday HR matters through to restructuring, reorganisation, outsourcing and contested social security issues.

  • White-Collar Crime

Financial and economic crime, internal fraud investigations, and crisis management when exposure becomes public.

  • Projects & Energy

Conventional, nuclear and renewable generation, grid connection, and major infrastructure projects.

  • Competition

EU and national antitrust, merger control, FDI screening and state aid for new entrants and incumbents.

  • Mergers & Acquisitions

Domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and takeovers, handled end to end and on the deal's clock.

  • Real Estate

Office, retail, residential, logistics, healthcare, education and data centres, from acquisition through to leasing.

  • IP & Life Sciences

Commercialising, protecting and enforcing intellectual property across the full lifecycle of a rights portfolio.

  • Public Procurement

Preparation, bidding, negotiation and implementation of procurement contracts, plus challenges when they go wrong.

Sector fluency

Twelve industries the firm knows from the inside

Sector knowledge is what shortens a diligence exercise. These are the industries where Stratulat Albulescu's teams already understand the regulator, the contract norms and the questions a buyer will ask before the data room opens.

In focus

The lawyer who built the firm

Silviu Stratulat founded Stratulat Albulescu in 2011 and has taken it from a small start-up to one of the more visible names on the Romanian legal market. He leads the Corporate and M&A practice and heads the firm's M&A department, advising on mergers, acquisitions and private fundraisings with a particular concentration in technology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences and financial services.

His corporate work runs across public takeovers, domestic and cross-border acquisitions, corporate reorganisations and joint ventures, and he regularly acts for management teams on buyouts and the equity arrangements that follow when they roll into private equity structures. He is a recognised name in late-stage venture and early-stage private equity across Europe and the emerging markets.

On the real estate side he acts for investors, developers, lenders and occupiers, from the disposal of shopping centres and office buildings to the acquisition of undeveloped landmark plots in central Bucharest. That experience was shaped by work with funds including AEW Europe, First Property Group, Futureal and the Reuben Brothers.

Funds and corporates he has represented include Resource Partners, The Rohatyn Group, GapMinder, Catalyst, Innova Capital, Vitruvian Partners, Enterprise Investors, Morphosis Capital, Encora Digital, Gemini Solutions, Vodafone, SIBS, TAROM, Thoughtworks and the Romanian Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalisation.

Chambers and Partners has ranked him among Romania's corporate and M&A lawyers, noting the quality of results he delivers through a negotiation; clients quoted in the directory describe him as commercially minded and quick to surface the issue nobody else had thought of.

The opportunity

Why this membership matters

Romania is one of the European Union's larger consumer markets and, increasingly, the place where regional deals in technology, energy, logistics and real estate are actually executed. For Global Indian Network members looking at South-East Europe, the constraint is rarely appetite. It is finding counsel who can read the regulator and the room at the same time.

Stratulat Albulescu's membership gives that access a name. The firm already acts for American, Western European, Middle Eastern and Asian investors entering the market, and runs the Romanian leg of multi-jurisdictional transactions for firms abroad. For members with operations in the EU, or plans to acquire into it, that is a working bridge rather than a directory listing.

It runs in both directions. Romanian founders and funds increasingly look east and south for capital and customers, and the diaspora network the GIN convenes is exactly the set of decision-makers they need to meet.
