Dr Areff Salauroo is one of Mauritius's most consequential business and public policy figures — a media leader, entrepreneur, human capital strategist, and international advocate whose career has shaped the country's media landscape, its professional institutions, and its voice in global governance conversations. As Chief Executive Officer of La Sentinelle Group — Mauritius's oldest and most respected media conglomerate, founded in 1962, with a 285-strong team and annual revenues approaching $178 million — he leads an institution whose journalism, printing, distribution, and logistics operations are woven into the fabric of Mauritian public life. Beyond the boardroom, he has served as President of some of the world's most significant HR bodies and is an Official Member of the Forbes Business Council — a recognition of his emergence as a business leader of genuine international stature.
Leading La Sentinelle
La Sentinelle Group, which Dr Salauroo leads as CEO, is the oldest and most established media group in Mauritius, founded in 1962. Its operations span three core pillars: media (publishing, broadcasting, and digital content); printing (industrial-scale print production); and distribution and logistics, including its McEasy Freight subsidiary, which extends its reach across the region and internationally. The group publishes some of Mauritius's most widely read titles, including L'Express — the country's leading daily newspaper — and Business Magazine, the premier Francophone business publication in the Indian Ocean region, which has been the leader in economic press in Mauritius for over 28 years.
Dr Salauroo's tenure as CEO has been marked by a commitment to relevance and reinvention in a rapidly evolving media environment. Under his leadership, La Sentinelle has pursued digital transformation, expanded its logistics footprint, and deepened its civic mission — most visibly through the Grand Salon de l'Industrie Locale et du Savoir-Faire Mauricien, an initiative championing local manufacturing and artisanal excellence that earned him a personal commendation from the President of Mauritius. Before becoming CEO, Dr Salauroo served as Director of Publications within the La Sentinelle Group — a role that gave him deep editorial and operational command of the group's publishing activities before taking on full executive leadership. He has been a member of the La Sentinelle Group since 1992, making him one of its longest-serving and most institutionally knowledgeable leaders.

Shaping Global Human Resource Practice
Running parallel to his media and business career, Dr Salauroo has built one of the most distinguished records in international human resource management of any Mauritian professional. He currently serves as President of the Association of Human Resource Professionals of Mauritius (MAHRP) — the country's leading HR body — where he has driven the modernisation and professionalisation of HR practice across the island's private and public sectors.
His international HR leadership is equally significant. He has served as President of the International Confederation of Human Resource Associations (ICHRA) and as Immediate Past President of the African Human Resource Confederation (AHRC) — two of the most prominent regional and international HR bodies in the world. He was formerly Vice-President of the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA), the apex global body for HR associations, where he contributed to policy frameworks shaping the future of work across continents. Through these roles, he has positioned Mauritius as a respected voice in global conversations about workforce transformation, people management standards, and the future of professional HR.
Public Policy Advocate and Civic Voice
Dr Salauroo has consistently used his platforms — as a media CEO, HR leader, and international federation president — to advocate for better public policy on labour markets, professional education, and economic development. Dr Salauroo holds a PhD and has pursued his professional development with the rigour he brings to all areas of his work. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD–UK), holding his Chartered Fellowship in Strategic HR Management since 2016–17 — one of the most demanding professional credentials in the global HR field. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Quality Management (IIQM), and a Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD) — the last of which reflects his standing in corporate governance as well as HR and management. He is also a Member of the British Academy of Management and a Member of the Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership.
