About the Show

Welcome to an enlightening episode of the Global Indian Podcast, where we aim to dispel misconceptions surrounding the beautiful Caribbean island country St. Lucia. Join our Chief Explorer, Rajan Nazran, in a captivating discussion with Dr Stephen King as they delve into the essence and complexities of St. Lucia’s identity.

Beyond the idyllic image of sun, sea, sand, and hotels, St. Lucia grapples with deep-rooted social dysfunction. The absence of effective strategies to combat poverty and disease underscores the urgent need for realignment, reform, and reengineering of existing democratic systems to address the needs of all its people truly. Is St. Lucia merely a tourism hotspot or an inclusive community? The stark reality reveals a struggling lower stratum of society, battling to make ends meet.

Dr Stephen King passionately explores the controversial Citizenship by Investment Program, likening it to the commodification of passports, while advocating for a more inclusive approach known as Citizenship by Invitation. He sheds light on the erasure of Caribbean history in mainstream narratives, emphasising the need to confront the whitewashing of the past. While the private and public sectors thrive, the dearth of engagement within civil society is palpable. The lack of accessible education perpetuates violence and crime, creating a concerning trajectory for St. Lucia’s future.
