Meet the Indian-American Prodigy: Preesha Chakraborty

At the tender age of six, Preesha Chakraborty's intellectual prowess was already evident. This bright and ambitious nine-year-old student from Warm Spring Elementary School in Fremont, California, became a lifetime member of the Mensa Foundation, the oldest high-IQ society globally. Her passion for learning didn't stop there. Recently, she achieved a monumental milestone by securing a coveted spot on the' world's brightest' students list, curated by the esteemed Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth (CTY).

Preesha's journey to this remarkable achievement began with her participation in the CTY Talent Search. This platform, designed to identify and acknowledge students with exceptional abilities, involved rigorous above-grade-level tests. Despite the challenging selection process, Preesha's performance stood out among more than 16,000 students from 90 countries, securing her place among the world's brightest young minds- a recognition that is more than just an accolade.

In the summer of 2023, as a Grade 3 student, Preesha decided to attempt the CTY test. The CTY Talent Search evaluates students using the SAT, ACT, and the School and College Ability Test. Preesha not only excelled in these assessments but exhibited exceptional proficiency in both the verbal and quantitative sections.

Her exceptional performance achieved her 99th percentile of advanced Grade 5 performances, earning her the prestigious Grand Honors. This recognition is not merely symbolic; it carries tangible benefits. Preesha is now eligible to participate in over 250 specialised programs offered by Johns Hopkins CTY. These programs cover an extensive array of subjects, including mathematics, computer programming, chemistry, physics, reading, and writing, tailored to meet the unique needs of advanced students in grades 2-12—the opportunities presented by this recognition open doors to further opportunities.

Preesha's intellectual abilities extend beyond the classroom. She is a well-rounded individual with a diverse range of interests. Her passion for travel and exploration, love for hiking and connecting with nature, and keen interest in mixed martial arts showcase her commitment to holistic personal development. According to her parents, Preesha's enthusiasm for learning has been a constant throughout her educational journey, consistently displaying exceptional academic abilities.

Preesha's story is an inspiration not only for young minds aspiring to excel academically but also for educators and parents alike. It shows the significance of recognising and nurturing the innate talents of our youth. As she embarks on the exciting opportunities Johns Hopkins CTY provides, the world eagerly anticipates this talented child's continued growth and success.
