About the Show

On October 12th, 2022, we hosted a captivating discussion with Timothy Jonas, Chairman of ANUG (A New and United Guyana). The focal point of this engaging dialogue was the sensitive issue of identity politics in Guyana. In response to this thought-provoking conversation, the Government of Guyana exercised its right to reply, and we are delighted to present the insights shared in this enlightening podcast.

Seeking to grasp the intricate dynamics of national identity and unity in Guyana, Rajan Nazran conducted an exclusive interview with Minister Gail Teixeira. Her invaluable insights shed light on the concept of national identity and the possibilities of overcoming divisions to foster a cohesive society.

Minister Teixeira acknowledged the existence of identity politics within Guyana and emphasised their adverse impact on the nation’s progress. The presence of divisions based on ethnicity can obstruct collaboration, hinder economic growth, and perpetuate social inequality.

During the discussion, Rajan and Minister Teixeira explored the essence of “one people, one destiny,” a phrase often used to symbolise national unity in Guyana. They discussed the significance of this vision and its potential to bridge the ethnic divide, highlighting the importance of social cohesion initiatives in building a genuinely united Guyana.

Addressing historical injustices and promoting equal opportunities for all, regardless of ethnic background, emerged as vital steps towards a more inclusive and harmonious society. Tune in now!
