About the Show

In 2011, what began as a peaceful protest in South Africa tragically escalated into mass violence, specifically targeting minority communities, resulting in the loss of over 300 lives. This distressing chain of events should have served as a wake-up call for the world, highlighting the urgent need to address ethnic bias globally. However, the international community’s silence in response to these atrocities has been alarming, and the critical lessons from these events appear to have gone unheeded.

For this episode, Rajan Nazran had the privilege of engaging in an insightful conversation with Narendh Ganesh, our esteemed South Africa Global Indian Correspondent, to delve into the details of these unsettling occurrences and to explore the essential question of what steps the affected community must take moving forward.

Within the complex tapestry of these events, a multitude of factors intertwine, ranging from economic inequality and identity politics to biases against minorities and tribal divisions. As Rajan and Narendh embark on this exploration, they seek to unearth the roots of hate that have manifested in South African politics.

Narendh’s unique perspective offers a firsthand account of walking alongside marginalised communities, shedding light on the challenges they face amidst a backdrop of corrupt politics within the government system. Additionally, he eloquently elaborates on how the factor of race is employed and its detrimental effects on various minority communities, with a particular focus on the Indian community.

Join us in this profound conversation as we strive to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding the events in South Africa, and together, we aim to pave the way for a more inclusive, compassionate, and just future.
