A Journey Home with Jennifer Kristensson

Author: Jennifer Kristensson

My name is Jennifer Kristensson. I grew up close to nature in mid-Scandinavia, a 7-hour drive north of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The place I call home is where nature plays a big role in the local culture, and that’s what makes my roots there so strong. I feel at home when the wind is blowing over the mountains, during quiet mornings in the forest, in the bright summer nights, and when the long, dark winter brings its magic.

The nature has always been my playground

When I was a child, adventure was just around the corner, and nature has always been my playground. I remember the first time I got to take the skis myself out into the dark winter night or when my brother and I had been out playing in the snow.

I think that’s what brought me to study adventure tourism at the small school close to my home. We were two students in the class, and it was a great education; it opened the world for me. The first step after school was to Norway, where I guided groups in the mountains during the summer and worked as a ski instructor during the winter. It was so fun to meet new people and show them the culture and the beautiful landscape of mid-Scandinavia.

From Scandinavia to the other side of the world

After my time in Norway, I was ready for my next step. Even if I love the place I call home, it was exciting to experience something different. It took me to New Zealand, where I guided people from all over the world on bus tours around the islands. The bus tours were 23 days long, and it was great to see how people started the tour as strangers and, by the end of the tour, it was a whole bus of friends.

A longing for home inspired the creation of Mid Scandinavia Tours

No matter where in the world I was, the same thought always came back to me. What I’d been taking for granted during my childhood in mid-Scandinavia is something very special. A longing started to grow in my soul. I wanted to come home and share a part of my childhood and culture with the rest of the world. To be able to do that, I took the next step on my adventure: I left New Zealand and founded my own company, Mid Scandinavia Tours

Moving home to my cabin in the forest

My Home (Kopia)

A sense of calm washed over me as I returned home. It meant a lot to me to live close to nature again, and I moved to a little cabin in the forest that is now my permanent home. Of course, living a bit outside civilization in some ways makes life a bit more complicated, but seeing the changes in seasons and living together with nature brings me so much joy. Today, I live in this cabin with my dog Skrym and operate my own company, offering guided tours around mid-Scandinavia.

Welcome to Mid Scandinavia Tours

It has been a long journey from the evening when I was walking by the sea in New Zealand and decided to start my own bus tour and guide company in Scandinavia to where I am today.

I took a bus driving license to be able to drive the bus myself and started my own company from scratch. Today, I’m so proud to have my own company and to be able to welcome you onboard my bus to experience my home region and local culture with me.

I want to share the sky full of stars, the quiet sunsets over a crystal-clear lake, the culture, and the stunning surroundings that we have here in mid-Scandinavia with the rest of the world!
